Remarkable Vehicles
Two Land Rover Defender 110 station wagons, modified with 38” snow tyres ready for the elements. For the water crossings and journeys, custom made pontoons with a propellor powered by the Defender’s engines converts them into amphibious water craft.

LONDON TO YAKUTSK
— JANUARY 2022
Departing from the Royal Geographic Society in London, in the midst of a Covid lockdown, the team drove east covering ??? miles in ?? days headed to Yakutsk. Multiple breakdowns, road accident, Russian customs, and -35 C temperatures made this a icy marathon.
YAKUTSK TO UELEN
— MARCH 2022
With massive Kamaz ice road trucks and Trekol tundra buggies hired, Chukotka permits in hand, and -60 C survival gear, the team was ready to cross to the eastern most point of Russia … but the Ukraine war erupted days before and the leg was cancelled.
MONGOLIA
— APRIL 2022
Extracting the Land Rovers from war gripped Russia, the team traversed this beautiful and remote country. Through desert, rivers, snow storms, mountains, and plains. Birthplace of three of the world’s great conquering civilizations. A fascinating country to visit.
THE CHANNEL
— SEPTEMBER 2022
With China closed due to Covid, the Land Rovers were shipped back to the UK for a series of amphibious challenges. Thames River through London. Seine River through Paris. Channel crossing from Dover to Sangatte. Despite broken drive trains and foul weather, the DefenderX team prevailed.
CANADA
— NOVEMBER 2023
